AS400 Power Requirements

AS400 power requirements describe the circuits, UPS capacity, power supplies, redundancy, rack, and cooling needs for AS400 or IBM Power hardware.
AS400 power requirements cover the electrical and environmental capacity an IBM Power or AS400 system needs to run safely. They are not a single number: the exact requirement depends on the full configuration.
This is often a buying-readiness query. The buyer may be checking whether a quote, used system, relocation, UPS purchase, PDU plan, or replacement power supply will work in the room where the server actually runs.
Requirements are driven by all of the following:
- Machine type and model
- Installed feature codes
- Power supplies
- Storage drawers
- Tape devices
- Rack layout
- UPS capacity
- Cooling
- Redundancy goals
After those inputs are known, ask whether the install should be basic, sustainable, or growth-ready. Basic gets the known system running safely. Sustainable adds tested runtime, monitoring, clearer power separation, and documentation. Growth-ready reserves capacity for future IBM Power, storage, network, or HA equipment.
Verify requirements before a refresh, a relocation, a replacement power supply order, or a used hardware purchase. Getting this wrong after delivery is expensive.
